Our Vision, Mission and Values

Our Vision

Equality, Wellbeing and Belonging for all in our communities

Our Mission

PCHP supports and enables local people to take steps to improve their own health and create a healthy community and environment

Our Values

  • Relationships built on trust, respect and honesty
  • Welcoming and inclusive behaviour that ensures everyone is treated with dignity
  • Work that actively supports and empowers people, enabling them to take control of their own lives, and that protects their rights
  • Positivity, enthusiasm and a commitment to work flexibly and creatively to achieve our vision

Our approach

We are rooted in the community and have always worked using a community development approach to tackle ill health in the area. It is a process that includes:

  • Promoting learning, knowledge, skills, confidence and the ability to act collectively
  • Taking positive action to address inequalities in power, access and participation
  • Strengthening organisation, networking and leadership with and between communities
  • Working for change through increased local democracy, participation and involvement in public affairs

We use the social model of health – looking at how health is affected by everyday life such as political, social, economic, environmental and cultural factors.  These shape the conditions in which we are born, grow, live, work and age.

Taking steps to better health

In 2020, we introduced and embedded the evidence based Five Ways to Wellbeing standardised framework (https://neweconomics.org/2008/10/five-ways-to-wellbeing) to inform our work and measure our impact. Originally developed in 2008 by the New Economics Foundation, the Five Ways to Wellbeing is key to our approach and encourages people to take steps to better health through five actions: Connect, Be Active, Keep Learning, Give and Take Notice.

We offer a dynamic and responsive range of support, activities, events and learning opportunities so people can connect more and feel healthier and happier. People can take steps to better health – one step at a time and at their own pace.  Ultimately, we aim to increase personal and community resilience – everyone should be able to live well, cope with life’s ups and downs, and have a chance to grow to their full potential.  An overview of the way we work can be found here.
