It is this ability to remain adaptable, resilient, and responsive to local and individual needs that has allowed us to continue supporting the amount of people we do each year. It’s worth noting that this wouldn’t be possible without a strong sense of teamwork, no one person is responsible for the success of a particular project and for that, I’m truly grateful. Being part of an organisation that encourages staff to try new ideas has been very welcome. Staff feedback May 2023.

“I feel like you genuinely want to help, it doesnae feel forced or nothing you know what I mean. You’re all just really nice people like, and I don’t have to pretend I’m ok if I’m no, like a dinnae need to put on a show”.

We are a responsive, caring and flexible multi-disciplinary team dedicated to supporting people and families in a holistic and effective way.  We have made a lot of changes since 2019 when Pilton Community Health Project was severely affected by a significant funding cut that nearly closed our Project.  We thank those who took the time to pass on their knowledge, wisdom, advice and encouragement – and all those who invested in a new future for the Project at a difficult and challenging time for local people, families, volunteers, partners and our workers. After seeking important feedback we reviewed the way we work, our structure and renewed our purpose. This started a significant and essential change process. These significant events triggered four key changes:

A flatter and more efficient organisational structure with matrix working
Increased collaboration with partners
Strong and compelling evidence to measure the impact of our work
A more accessible and simpler financial software system

The flatter structure created and encouraged a new culture, and in turn positively influences the way we recruit and support our workers.  As a team dedicated to supporting people and families in a holistic and effective way, we have a way of working that underpins this approach.  In our matrix style of working, traditional silos are removed and each worker is deployed where their skills and experience best serves the people we support.  More decision making is devolved and we benefit from all the advantages of a strong matrix including:

More flexibility and greater responsiveness
Better use of skills, shared knowledge and learning
Improved communication, more collaboration
Reduced costs e.g. shared resources
Increased motivation, working more efficiently and effectively

Members of the staff team can work flexibly across the Community Wellbeing Programme to maximise the impact of their skills, qualifications and experience and increase opportunities to learn and grow.  This means we offer a more agile and informed range of holistic support to local people and their families, regular planned opportunities to share learning and improve practice, and we can demonstrate the best use of investment and resources with regular qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis.

Our management team is drawn from project managers who are also front line delivery workers – ensuring practice and decisions align with the needs of the people we support, we are applying the best use of everyone’s skills and experience, and we can demonstrate best value.  We work with a fabulous team of around 30 volunteers who help us deliver a rich and effective wellbeing programme with local people underpinned by the Five Ways to Wellbeing framework (link back to Our Vision page please).
